speakers :: Lynne Jackson
our speakers

Lynne Jackson is the great-great granddaughter of Dred Scott, the 19th Century Civil Rights pioneer, and the founder of the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation.

Lynne has appeared on C-SPAN and NPR and spoken at Harvard, Georgetown, and the National Day of Prayer, among many others. In 2007, she organized the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Dred Scott decision.

This winter, Lynne is due to release her first book and is a highly sought speaker for her wisdom on family, ancestry, black history, and commemoration.

Dred & Harriett Scott sued for their freedom from slavery and were told by the US Supreme Court in 1857 that they were not fully human and had no right to liberty. The case caused an international stir and hastened the start of the Civil War.
