San Joaquin Valley, CA - While the farmers in California’s Central and San Joaquin Valleys suffer from what they consider a man-made drought, many are angry that the response from Congress has gone from delay to stifled speech. At issue is the drought in the Central and San Joaquin Valleys that has resulted from not only the legal and environmental regulations but also the diversion of 200 billion gallons of water from the agricultural heartland of California into the Ocean.
According to California farmer Rose Corona, “The result is that potentially over $20 billion of California’s $43 billion agricultural revenue could be decimated in America’s greatest breadbasket as farmers lose their farms and residents are forced to import food from China. While the solutions are not simple, local government officials are not even able to attempt them. Congressional action is the only hope. That begins with Congressional hearings. Inaction is unacceptable”.
Although Corona and others are pleased with the leadership of Congressman Nunes and also Congressman McClintock who have pursued the unusual “Field Hearing” that will take place Monday, they remain angry about several points including: Because the travel distance is such a strain on both the farmers and the concerned citizens in that area, Corona and other Pro-water coalition groups are calling on all Patriots and Tea Party Activists to come and show their support for a solution in two locations. A Town Hall meeting with Representatives Devon, Nunes, McClintock, McCarthy and Bishop (R-Utah) will be held on Monday at:
8:30am-10:30am
Fresno City Council Chambers 1:00 p.m.
The Oversight Field Hearing will be held: LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE HONORED Representative Sue Allen was presented an award as the freshman "Legislator of the Year" for Healthcare Advocacy by Speaker Ron Richard (R-Joplin). Representative Allen is a member of the Health Care Policy Committee. She fought hard for health care coverage for autism, legislation that protects pharmacists' rights to refuse to assist in abortion methods, and legislation that establishes cancer awareness. Representative Allen sponsored HB 1177, changing the eligibility requirements regarding the non-Mo Health Net eligible personal care services.“I would like to thank everyone for this honor,” said Rep. Allen. “I believe we accomplished a lot this year, both in the committee and in the house, to increase healthcare options for Missourians. By keeping healthcare affordable and within reach of all the citizens of Missouri, we can increase the opportunities we have and can increase economic options for healthcare providers. I look forward to more opportunities next year to work onhealthcare.” Representative Allen was elected in 2008 and her district covers Town and Country, Manchester, and parts of Ballwin. She is a Certified Physical Therapist, business owner, wife, mother, and grandmother of 3.
